Britain to Shut Down Nuclear Fuel Plant After Japan Disaster

Britain´s Nuclear Decommisioning Authority announced that it will shut down a plant processing plutonium into new fuel for nuclear reactors.

“The reason for this [closure] is directly related to the tragic events in Japan and their ongoing impact on the power markets,” NDA head Tony Fountain explained in a statement.

The plant in Sellafield became operational in 2001 but “has a long history of technical problems”.
